The potters' quarter on the Hooghly that makes idols for Kolkata and beyond.

Kumartuli (Kumortuli) is a traditional potters' quarter in North Kolkata. It lies mostly between Rabindra Sarani and the Hooghly, between Ahiritola and Shobhabazar.
Its artisans make clay idols for festivals across the city and regularly export them. They first worked for the mansions around them and later for the community pujas.
EditorialBefore Shashthi, the lanes are full of nearly finished protimas. During Puja the studios are quieter, but Kumartuli Park, Ahiritola and Bagbazar are all a short walk away.
