Raja Nabakrishna Deb celebrated Durga Puja at Shobhabazar Rajbari on a grand scale in 1757, after the Battle of Plassey.

The Sabarna Roy Choudhury family, zamindars of the land that became Kolkata, are said to be among the earliest to hold Durga Puja publicly, apparently from 1610.

EditorialBonedi pujas are family worship first and visitor attractions second. Timings, photography rules and entry are entirely up to the family. Dress modestly, keep your voice down and follow any instructions at the gate.
